Not sleeping? Got a twitch?

Here is something that could help both…

I have been experimenting, and I have come up with something really useful.

The reason I was experimenting was financial. We had bought a remedy that was applied topically, and with which we had had good results. The only problem with this remedy was the price. We had bought 100mls and it was expensive. Plus, it had been shipped from Canada.

Putting my education to good use I googled the product and found the ingredients section, cast my eye over the main points and went into my pharmacy to rummage in my cupboards. I had everything needed to construct my own version except one item, and five minutes on Amazon soon solved that problem.

The remedy, my friends, was Magnesium Cream.

MAGNESIUM CREAM

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup magnesium chloride flakes
  • 1/2 cup filtered water
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup shea butter
  • 2 tablespoons grated beeswax
  • 10-15 drops essential oil
  • 1teaspoon emulsifying wax

Instructions:

  1. Dissolve magnesium chloride flakes in the cool filtered water. Set aside.
  2. In a double boiler/bain marie/heat-proof bowl on top of saucepan boiling water…melt coconut oil, shea butter, emulsifying wax and beeswax together.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes. [Ideally the oil liquid and the Magnesium liquid should be around the same temperature before combining].
  4. Slowly pour the magnesium mix into the oil mixture. Whisk while pouring to emulsify.
  5. Add essential oils [Lavender is good].
  6. Continue whisking until the lotion starts to thicken and cool.
  7. Transfer to a clean glass jar.
  8. Allow to cool completely before putting the lid on.

Usage:

Apply a small amount to the soles of clean feet before bed, massaging thoroughly.

I bought a 1Kg tub of Magnesium flakes for under £8, which should last us ages. And it was Magnesium Chloride which is stronger than Magnesium Sulphate [Epsom Salts] which some people have found to be a sleep aid when thrown into a hot bath before bed.

Somebody has suggested just putting the Magnesium water in a spray bottle and spraying the skin as it is a lot less fuss. This is true, and if you cannot get the oils and waxes, or do not have the time to mess about emulsifying water and oil, that is a good choice. However, I was told that a cream/oil component helps the constituents to be absorbed through the skin. If you know otherwise, then let me know.

Since I have been using my Magnesium cream I fall asleep quicker, and stay asleep longer – I now often manage about 7.5 hours.  I am very happy with that [especially as my husband is still using the expensive cream and I am not…].

I sometimes get a twitching upper eyelid when overtired or stressed. I smeared some of my cream on it and it just stopped. I have done this twice now with the same result. It may not have the kudos of a double-blind, random-controlled trial but I am convinced.

Later this week, or next week, I will put a video of me making some more Magnesium Cream  in my HerbWorks membership, so you can see how it is done.
